The Problem
— and Why It Matters
Across the country, thousands of older and historic buildings sit empty. At the same time, many communities need more affordable housing, community facilities, and local businesses. In small towns and under-resourced areas, it can be especially hard to rehabilitate these buildings because small-scale developers often can’t get the capital or technical support they need.
RePurpose Capital helps bring empty and underused buildings back to life. We provide loans and technical assistance to help turn these buildings into affordable homes, community spaces, and local businesses. We focus on people and places that are often overlooked, especially projects that cost less than $5 million in disinvested communities.
We give special consideration to projects connected to National Trust for Historic Preservation programs and partners, including Main Street America communities, African American Cultural Heritage Action Fund projects, endangered historic places, and statewide and local preservation organizations.
*RPC only invests in the rehabilitation of existing buildings, which may include additions to an extant building. Project sponsors must have site control before requesting financing. Project sponsors must be willing to integrate energy efficiency, weatherization, and other environmentally friendly features into their projects. Apart from single-family dwellings, all other real estate asset types are eligible for consideration.
